Research of the effects of mothers' attitudes on students' success and abilies

The main target of the research is to compare success at school and ability high school students with their parental attitudes. The universe of the research is comprised of students in high schools inside the borders of Erzurum city within the 2010-2011 education year. Sampling of the research is comprised of total 296, 172 male and 124 female students from five public high schools within the borders of Erzurum city.In order to measure the ability levels of the students in the class ?Basic Ability Test? developed by Gökçe, S. Şeyhun, H. ve Şen, H. (2005) and to measure students parental attitudes ?Parental Attitude Research Instrument? developed by Schaefer and Bell (1958: Akt. Öner 1994) and adopted to Turkish by Güney Le Compte, Ayhan Le Compte and Serap Özer (1978): Akt. Öner 1994) are used as a means of gathering data. In addition to the instruments, the students? grade point averages from their school records were used to determine their academic achievement.For the analysis of the data, Regresyon analyses, t test, Mann Whitney U test, one-way ANOVA and Kruskal Wallis test were used. Significance level is .05 for all the analyses.Findings are summarized in tables. As a result of the research it is concluded that there are big differences among. Standard deviation, deviation from average and the averages of the points that Secondary school 10th grade male and female students got from PARI sub scales. İt is found PARI 1 (excessive protective mother attitude) PARI 2 (behaving democratic and equal attitude), PARI 3 (mother?s ?rejection of housewife role? attitude), PARI 4 (conflict in the family attitude) and PARI 5 (strict discipline attitude) sub scale has effect on child?s school success.
