The relationship between mothers and self-perceptions regarding the role of parenting and childhood trauma

In the study, the relationships between self-perceptions of the parenting role in mothers and traumatic experiences in childhood were examined. Demographic data included age, education level, employment status, age at first marriage, marital status, number of children, who took care of the mother during infancy, getting psychological help before, and getting psychological help for her child before. Data was collected online with the help of Google form. "self-perception of parental Role scale" and "Childhood Trauma Questionnaire" were used as data collection tools. Participants consisted of women between the ages of 18-65. Participants were grouped according to their age, education level, employment status, age at first marriage, marital status, number of children, who took care of the mother during infancy, receiving psychological help before, and receiving psychological help for her child before. These groupings were analyzed together with the scales. Data analysis was done using IBM SPSS 25 program. In the analysis of the data, independent groups t-test, ANOVA, Brown-Forsythe, Mann Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis, Pearson and Spearman Correlation analyzes were performed. As a result of the analyzes, a significant relationship was found between some demographic variables and the sub-dimensions of the scales. Some significant results were also obtained between the sub-dimensions of the two scales.
