Investigation of deaths in term of forensic medicine that occured in bicycle and motorcycle accidents in Antalya

In this study, deaths from bicycle and motorcycle accident that external examination performed by Antalya Forensic Medicine Branch Office of the Forensic Medicine Council and autopsy performed in Mortuary Department of Antalya Branch of the Forensic Medicine Council, between 01 January 2005 and 31 December 2014, have been examined. Demographics (age, sex), crash time (hour, day, month, year), vehicle, stituation on the vehicle, accident type, accident place, dead place, helmet, autopsy performed, blood alcohol consantration, hospitilization, injury region and death result have been analyzed from external examination and autopsy records. It has determined that 94.2% of the cases were male, 5.8% of the cases were female, most of cases were between 20-29 year old, 89.4% of the death occured of motorcycle accident, 10.6% of the death occured of bicycle accident, most of the cases were drivers, accidents happened more often in summer (june, july, august), as known as accidents happened more often between 18.00-23.59, information of accident type was reached in 457 cases, 69 of them (%15.1) crashed by falling, 388 of them (%84.9) crashed by collision, most of accidents happened in settlement, injured body regions were mostly head region (30.4%) and head + thoraks-abdomen regions (15%), the most common injury pattern was cerebral hemorrhage/contusion (378), the most common death reasons were intracranial lesions (30.4%).
