Abstract (EN)
The concept of neigborhood is a form of socialization seen from the times when people started to live in a community. The concept of neighborhood is spatial as well as social sharing. Becauses physical space in the main element in the formation of neighborhood relations. The concept of neighborhood means place sharing as well as social sharing. For this reason, the quality of the physical space determines the form of neigborhood relations. In the other words, it is expected that neighborhood relations will vary in the parallel with the differences that physical space shows depending on time, place and culture. In the thesis, it was chosen because of the level of spatial development and diversity offered by the Ancient Roman period in order to question the relationship between neigborhood and space. Although the cities of Rome, Ostia and Pompeii, which were chosen for the case studies, existed in the same period, the comparison of neigborly relations made it particulary attractive because some differences between the inhabitants of these cities and the purpose of establishment of cities were also seen in the physical context. The analyzes made within the scope of the study were examined over the selected cities. According to this analysis, the spatial equivalents of neighborhood relations are expected in the cities and places where spatial sharing is most common
