Road network system in Ancient Side urban planning

Thanks to its geopolitical location, Side has been one of the most important settlements of the Pamphylia Region throughout history. Although we have limited information about Side before the Roman Early Imperial Period, it is understood that the first city planning that can be determined definitively was created with the 1st century AD. In this process, it is seen that the road networks in the city, especially public and religious buildings, are built or rearranged. Due to the monumental public buildings built in the 2nd century AD, it became necessary to reconsider the urban planning. During this period, the route of the main street was changed. In addition, streets providing access to public buildings of the 2nd century AD were also built during this process. With the 5-6 centuries AD, the streets were overhauled and used to provide transportation to the important Byzantine structures in the city. It is thought that the streets were not used as actively as before, as the population decreased after the possible Sassanid and Arab attacks on the city in the 7th century AD.
