Abstract (EN)
This dissertation explores the artistic relationship between Anton Stadler, a prominent figure in late 18th-century Vienna, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, focusing on the impact of this relationship on the clarinet repertoire. Stadler played a pivotal role in expanding the technical possibilities of the clarinet and is regarded not only as a virtuoso but also as a musician who contributed to the structural evolution of the instrument. The basset clarinet and bassethorn, developed in collaboration with instrument maker Theodor Lotz, directly influenced Mozart's creative vision. The works composed for these instruments—such as the Clarinet Concerto in A Major, K.622, the Clarinet Quintet in A Major, K.581, and the "Kegelstatt" Trio, K.498 — reflect Stadler's technical prowess and musical identity, and have solidified the clarinet's place in the Classical repertoire. Through these compositions, the clarinet emerged as a solo instrument in both chamber and symphonic settings. This study examines Stadler's biography, his collaboration with Lotz, and his friendship with Mozart by analyzing archival documents and historical sources, ultimately evaluating how this artistic relationship shaped the evolution of the clarinet on both an individual and historical level. Keywords: Anton Stadler, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Clarinet Repertoire, Basset Clarinet, Classical Period
