Analysis of the psychological well-being and effective communication skills of the mediators according to the personality traits

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to analyze whether the psychological well-being and effective communication skills differ or not according to the sub-dimensions of the personality traits of the mediators. Within the scope of the research, 600 mediators registered to the official register of the Ministry of Justice, Department of Mediation have been contacted. However, due to the deficiencies determined in these 600 surveys carried out, 525 surveys have been deemed valid. Our sampling consists of 197 men and 328 women. Within the framework of the research, Personal Information Form consisting of 7 questions in total prepared by searching the relevant literature has been used as the data collection tool and as to determine the psychological well-being of the participants, Psychological Well-Being Scale; as to determine the personality traits of the participants, Five Factor Personality Inventory Short Form and as to measure the effective communication skills of the participants, Effective Communication Skills Scale have been used. In accordance with the findings of the research, according to the sub-dimensions of the personality traits of the participants, the psychological well-being and communication skills differ significantly. It has been concluded from the findings that the psychological well-being and communication skills of the participants with higher-order personality traits of extroversion, openness to experience, tender-mindedness and sense of responsibility are higher compared to the lower-order personality traits; while on the other hand, the communication skills and psychological well-being of the participants with higher-order personality trait of neuroticism are lower. The relevant findings have been discussed in accordance with the profession of mediation and traits of the relevant variables.
