Russia's Syria policy after the Arab Spring

Russian interest in the Middle East dates back to old times. Until today, it has tried to preserve its ties with the region in some way. The Arab Spring, which affected the Middle East in 2011, caused political changes in more than one country in the region. There have been regime changes in some countries, and in other countries, leaders have been executed or imprisoned. One of these countries where these events took place is Syria. As a result of the events that erupted in Syria in 2011, a civil war broke out. Russia, which has been interested in the region for a long time and wants to increase its power in the region, took advantage of the Arab Spring and got involved in the issues alongside the Assad regime. Russia supported Syria at the United Nations Security Council and intervened in Syria to help Assad in 2015. With the involvement of Russia in the events, changes have occurred in the course of the civil war in Syria. The study consists of two parts. While the first part focuses on the concept of foreign policy, the second part deals with the post-Cold War Russian policies towards the Middle East region. The aim of this study is to analyze Russia's Syria policy in the Arab Spring (between 2010-2022) process.
