IX ABSTRACT A MASTER THESIS THE QUASI- VERBALS IN ARABIC LANGUAGE Y. Seracettin BAYTAR Supervisor: Yrd. Doç. Dr. Ibrahim YILMAZ 2001- PAGE: XVIII + 214 Jury: Prof. Dr. Süleyman TÜLÜCÜ Yrd. Doç. Dr. Ibrahim YILMAZ Yfd. Doç. Dr. Abbâs ÇELİK This dissertation is about the quasi- verbal vords in Arabic language. The quasi- verbals are not actually verbs, but they have similarities with them due to their special meanings or their connections with a certain verb. They affect other words grammaticaly within the sentence as other ordinary verbs do. As they have an importance in Arabic grammar, the quasi- verbals are divided generally in to nine groups in classical works, in this study the subject of quasi- verbals is examined in two main chapters. In the first chapter the definitions, as well as the divisions and measures of these words are studied. Also the main morphological changes of their measures are pointed out. The topic of the second chapter is about the grammatical similarities of quasi- verbals to the proper verbs within their various aspects. In explaining the related subjects during the whole study, sometimes the Qur'anic verses, the prophetic traditions and poems are mentioned as examples. Furthermore some necessary analyses are given for their better understanding. A special effort was made for an exact translation of these examples into Turkish language.
