Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to determine effect of using augmented reality (AR) technology in science education on secondary school students' achievement and attitude on the course. In addition, their attitudes towards AR applications were revealed. Then relationship between students' achievement who use AR application, attitudes of them towards courses and towards AR application were determined in this study. In accordance with this purpose, for unit of "Solar System and Beyond" in science and technology course teaching program, a teaching design for the content of the unit was designed with the help of experts and AR activities were developed. The activities that were prepared with AR technology were designed by considering gains of the unit. Lecturing videos, the 3D visuals of planets in the Solar System, the information about planets and important concepts were included in the activity book. Moreover, it had different exercises for classroom assessment. Topics in the book were ordered according to Ministry of National Education books and total 32 activities were prepared. While the activity book was used in experiment group, traditional education was performed with the existing course book in the control group. The implementation stage was conducted in two steps as pilot and major implementation. In the research, quasi-experimental design of quantitative research methods was used. The sample of this study was composed of 100 students who study at 7th grade in two different secondary school in Bayburt during 2014-2015 school year. At the end of the implementations, "Science and Technology Course Success Test", "Scale for Attitude towards Science and Technology Course" and "Scale for Determining the Attitude towards activities that Prepared with AR" were used to revel students' achievement, attitudes towards the course and AR applications. According to the results, it was observed that there was a significant difference in students' achievement and the level of attitudes towards the course between students in experimental and control groups. In order to determine the attitudes towards AR applications of students in experimental group, descriptive analyses were made, when the factors of attitude were analyzed. It was identified that students were satisfied with use of AR applications, willingly to use it and they were not worried while they were using AR application. When the relationship between achievement of students who use AR technology, the attitudes of them towards the course and towards AR applications were examined, it was observed that there is a medium positive oriented and significant relationship between the achievement and attitudes towards course of students who use AR applications. As a result, AG has a positive effect on students' success and attitude. Therefore, widespread of using AR in educational environments is crucial. However, it is thought that it may be useful to determine the usability value of AG technology as a material to be applied.
