Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study, was to in vitro evaluate and analyze the effect of acidic beverages on the surface roughness, hardness and compressive strength of glass ionomer-based materials (high viscosity glass ionomer [Ketac™ Molar, Seefeld, GE], Amalgomer™CR, [Amalgomer™CR, Advanced Health, UK] Giomer [Beautifil II, Giomer,California,USA], Glass Carbomer [GCP Glass carbomer products, Leiden, Netherlands]. 160 samples were prepared for surface hardness and roughness test. In the study, samples were stored in distilled water for 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours, 7 days, 14 days and 28 days as cola, peach flavored ice tea and squeezed orange juice control group. The greatest increase in surface roughness between the groups of materials was observed in the specimens which were kept in the squeezed orange juice. A statistically significant difference was also observed in the orange juice between the surface roughness averages of the material groups. The surface roughness averages of the Amalgomer ™ CR group were found to be statistically significantly higher than the surface roughness averages of the other material groups. There was a statistically significant difference between the surface hardness averages of the material groups. The surface hardness averages of the Beautifil II group were found to be statistically significantly higher than the surface hardness averages of the other groups. The surface hardness averages of orange juice group of Beautifil II material were found to be statistically lower than all beverage groups. There was a statistically significant difference between the compressive strength averages of the material groups. A statistically significant difference was observed between the beverage strengths of all beverage groups in Beautifil II material. As a result; It has been noted that acidic drinks cause changes in surface roughness, surface hardness and compressive strength values of glass ionomer based restorative materials.
