Investigation of the effect of Hypericum perforatum and Calendula officinalis herb extracts on achilles tendon injury in rats

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to investigate macroscobic and microscobic effects of Hypericum perforatum and Calendula officinalis herb extracts when applied on collogenase type I induced achilles tendinosis in rats.After having the approval of experimantal animal studies ethics comitee 100 male Wistar albino rats, aged 3-4 mounts, weighing 200-250g have been used. 10 animals were in each groups and their left Achilles tendon injured and right tendon is used for control. A longitudinal incision was made slightly proksimale of the rigt legs of rats and 40µl collogenase type I was injected throughout the body of the right Achilles tendon. After the injury Achilles tendinosis tenth day rats were randomised to ten groups. Group 0 and Group 1 were controlled groups they were not healing applied. Gruop 2 (5 minutes) and Group 3 (10 minutes) were given friction massage. Rats in Group 4 was applied Hypericum perforatum extracts, group 5 and Group 6 were given friction massage with Hypericum perforatum extracts. In Group 7 was given Calendula oficinalis extracts and Group 8 and Group 9 were given friction massage with Calendula officinalis extracts. Healing were given 10 session and after the healing Achilles? tendons excision for histopathologic studies.Ther is a significant difference was detected between the all groups right leg and used for control left beg.In conclusion there is a statitically significant improvement in histopathologic scores after used Hypericum perforatum and Calendula offcinalis extractsin collogenase type I indused Achilles? tendinosis in rats.
