Poetic concepts in tezkire of Âşik Çelebi̇

Poetic concepts used in the description and assessment of elements such as poetry, poet, and poetry readers are guiding for understanding both their meaning at the time they were used and their present meaning and better understanding and interpreting the poem and the poet. Tezkires (collections of biographies), which are the books of criticism of their period, are works written for the purpose of introducing poets. Tezkires (collections of biographies) contain rich knowledge in terms of incorporating poetic concepts. The introduction sections of tezkires (collections of biographies) apart from the main sections include definitions that will answer the questions of what is and what should or should not be a poem. The XVIth century is the first century when tezkires (collections of biographies) were first started to be written in the Ottoman State. During this century, eight poet biographies, in other words, tezkires were written due to the fact there were many poets and it was the golden era of the Classic Turkish Poem. This study focused on poetic concepts in Meşâirü'ş-Şu'arâ (Senses of Poets) of Âşık Çelebi (Gentleman Bard), which gives detailed information and makes an assessment of the poets and poems and is a fundamental tezkire (collection of biographies) of the XVIth century. This thesis entitled the "Poetic Concepts in the Tezkire of Âşık Çelebi (Gentleman Bard)" basically consists of three sections. The life, personality, and works of Âşık Çelebi (Gentleman Bard) are mentioned in the first section. In the second section, the meaning of the word tezkire (collection of biographies) and the historical development of tezkirecilik were described, information on Meşâirü'ş-Şu'arâ (Senses of Poets) was given, and the contribution of the classification of poetic concepts to the understanding of poetics was stated. In the third section that makes up the basis of the study, Meşâirü'ş-Şu'arâ (Senses of Poets) was examined, and sentence examples with poetic concepts were identified and evaluated. It was tried to create the frameworks of meaning in which these concepts are generally used, and the articles and books about the concepts were used during the assessment. This study is considered to be a useful source for those who study and who are interested in the Ottoman poetry, poetics and poet reviews and for understanding the poetic concepts.
