A typographic study of Atatürk? s epigrams exhibited in public institutions and an application study

The aim of this study is to investigate typographically Atatürk?s epigrams exhibited in public institutions, carry out sample applications in this field and evaluate the audience views about these applications and existing past applications.Literature review model and interview technique from the qualitative methods were used in the study. In this study, a literature review on typography, the characteristics of typography, the classification of typographic characters and letters. The photos of the Atatürk?s corners taken from five public institutions were redesigned with freehand programme and presented for audience view. The qualitative data of the study were gathered with semi-structured interview forms. The audience were asked five questions. The answers for the interview were evaluated and interpreted. The following results were acquired from the study:It was determined that Atatürk?s epigrams exhibited in public institutions were generally read but would be read more if they were more remarkable. It was understood that the new designs were more remarkable than the old ones when they were compared. It was clear that the new designs were more efficient than the old ones at the aspect of readability, colour and typeface.Some suggestions were developed based on the data collected throughout the study.Key Words: Typography, Graphic Design, Communication Design, Inscription, Visual Communication.
