Abstract (EN)
This is a cross-sectional and descriptive study which was made to determine factors which effect the anxiety and its' levels on parents who apply to emergency services at hospitals for their children's fever. This study was performed with the participation of 126 parents whom had applied to Yozgat City Hospital's Children's Emergency Services and had agreed to participate in the study with their 0-12 months old babies whom had fever. Data was collected via 'Child and Family Individual Information Form', which was used to gather information on parents and children and the anxiety levels of parents was obtained with 'Momentary Anxiety Scale (DKÖ)'. To analyze the data, 'Unrelated Samples T Test' was used for cases where the Indepented Variable had two levels and a Normal Distribution, and for cases where the Indepented Variable had two levels and no Normal Distrubution 'The Mann Whitney U Test' was used. In cases where the Indepented Variable had more than two levels and a Normal Distribution , 'Analysis Varience (ANOVA)' was used, and in cases where the Indepented Variable had more than two levels and a no Normal Distribution, Kruskal Wallis H test was used. All analysis were carried out with the application SPSS 22. According to the study, parents' average total score was determined 50.9±10.8 on the 'Momentary Anxiety Scale (DKÖ)'. While parents whom applied a certain element in the scale (Which is to gave antipyretic to their children) among all other in-home fever dropping practices had lesser scores (61.1%), parents whom applied Cold Compress element had higher scores in the anxiety scale (35.7%). Parents whom checked their children's fever in 0-15 minute intervals (42.9%) had higher avarage anxiety measurements than parents whom checked their chidlren's fever in 16-30 minute intervals (43.7%). Parents whom obtained the information regarding the fever and how to drop it from medical personnel (43.7%) have less anxiety levels compared to those who obtained the information from their families (15.9%)(p<0,05). As a conclusion, it is important that the parents know how to intervene with a child in fever, how to do in-home fever dropping practices and learn those tenchniques directly from medical personnel. It can be said that there is no situation with no anxiety but the effects of anxiety on the parents can be lowered with education.
