Abstract (EN)

Natural resources in the world are being depleted rapidly with increasing population and changing consumption habits. As a result of increasing consumption, the problem of waste, which has been seen as a global problem in recent years and affects the life of every living thing, has emerged. These wastes, which cannot be lost by dissolving in nature, accumulate and spread, threatening the living life and habitats. Recycling, reuse and recovery methods applied as a solution to all these negativities are important in terms of resource, energy and environmental protection. In this thesis, it is aimed to draw attention to the waste problem in the architectural sense and to offer suggestions to today's construction sector in this context. Within the scope of the study, 35 building samples applied from Turkey and abroad between 2000 and 2021 were analyzed, and the possibilities and properties of waste material use in the building envelope were specifiled. Reuse of structural wastes with reuse in the building envelope, recycling with conversion of structural wastes into different building materials, recovery with use of non-structural wastes as building materials were evaluated. As a result of the study, it was seen that the waste materials used in the building envelope can contribute to reducing resource and energy consumption in the architectural field. It has been determined that there is a great potential for the use of waste materials in the renovations of existing structures and new structures. In order to increase the use of waste materials, the necessity of raising awareness and encouraging the producers, consumers and designers in the sector was emphasized.
