Abstract (EN)

Atopic dermatitis is a recurrent, chronic, inflammatory dermatose that begins in infancy and early childhood. Although etiology of atopic dermatitis is not completely understood, it is considered that a complex, multifactorial etiology plays a role in this disease. We aimed to investigate the the relationship severity of disease and either of thmic stromal lymphopitenin (TSLP), thymus and activation regulated chemokine (TARC) and periostin in children with atopic dermatitis. We studied 25 children with AD and 25 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. Children were measured serum TSLP, TARC and periostin levels by ELISA method. SerumTSLP, TARC and periostin levels in children with atopic dermatitis were higher than that of healthy children (p=0.001, p=0.004, 0.025, respectively). There was significant difference in TARC level between patients with AD and disease severity (p=0.014). However, there was no relationship between TSLP level and disease severity (p=0.80) nor periostin level (p=0.201). In Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis, the Area Under Curve (AUC) was 0.780 (95% CI (0.640-0.885), p<0.0001) for serum TSLP level to estimate atopic dermatitis. The sensitivity of serum TSLP level of 30,41 pg/mL was 72% and the specificity was 84% to estimate atopic dermatitis. The AUC was 0,738 (95% CI (0.595-0.852), p=0.0007) for TARC and the sensitivity of serum TARC level of 242.68 pg/mL was 72% and specificity was 68% to estimate atopic dermatitis. TheAUC was0,685 (95%CI (0.538-0.809), p=0.0244) for periostin. The sensitivity of serum TARC level of 1370.72 µg/mL was 96% and specificity was 52% to estimate atopic dermatitis. Serum levels of TSLP, TARC ve periostin are closely related with atopic dermatitis in children. However, only serum TARC level is associated with severity of atopic dermatitis severity of disease.
