Analyzing the relations between Turkey-European Union through the climate and European Green Deal

The climate crisis has become a global issıe since the 1990s and has begun to occupy an important place in the agenda of the EU. In this framework, the EU has played a forerunner role in this issue by adopting a comprehensive political package on 11 December 2019 entitled European Green Deal, which will pave the way for environmental sustainability of European economy. The relationship between Turkey and the EU dominated by ups and downs since the beginning, and Turkey has also directly affected by the developments of climate crisis and European Green Deal due to the deep ties between the two. Although the Turkey-EU relations has been standstill for a while, the parties have tried to strengthening the relationship within the framework of positive agenda since 2012. In this context, the issues such as visa liberalization, migration and energy are evaluated under the positive agenda, none of them create a long-term effect in Turkey-EU relations. It is possible to see several studies in the literature that focus on the positive aspect of the European Green Deal and climate crisis on Turkey-EU relations following a long hiatus. This master thesis also aims to evaluate the Turkey-EU relationship within the framework of the climate crisis and European Green Deal and to investigate whether these agendas will have any potential to mend ties between the two.
