Evaluation of Turkey’s green growth indicators in its European Union membership process

All countries are endeavoring to grow and make progress absolutely. The countries intend to keep up with the sustainable growth trend after they complete their growth and development processes. However, harming the nature is an inevitable ending since the desire for growth becomes the sole purpose and the human and nature are neglected. Within this context, some countries recently have focused on the green growth rather than the growth and have entered into a transformation from traditional growth to green growth. Within the framework of the Green Growth model which occupies the agenda intensely in recent years and becomes a subject of research, the important developments are in question in Turkey as well. In this regard, the study aims at evaluating Turkey within its European Union membership process by comparing with other candidate countries and the European Union. The abovementioned evaluation covers the years between 1990 and 2018 according to the availability of data. Furthermore, the evaluation is carried out on selected OECD green growth indicators with a common data range. These evaluations have been performed at the axis of CO2 efficiency, energy efficiency, the effects of environmental risks, technology and innovation and economic situation.
