Convergence analysis study of GDP between EU member countries and Turkey

Abstract (EN)

In the scope of this thesis study, it has been studied whether Turkey shows any convergence in terms of growth rates, in other words, gross domestic products to European Union countries or not. Turkey has been carrying out EU harmonization studies for a long time. This study shows whether Turkey is ready to become an EU country in terms of also growth rates or not. In the scope of this study, concepts and types of convergence besides concepts of beta and sigma convergence, conditional convergence and unconditional convergence have been examined and the literature has been reviewed. The study has examined the establishment of European Union, enlargement processes and important developments shaping these enlargement processes dahili the scope of convergence analysis of Turkey to EU countries. Moreover, besides the studies carried out by Turkey for the aim of becoming a full member of European Union and the historical process, the important macroeconomic developments arasında dates of 1970-2017, the main time period of the study, has also been examined. The last part of the study handles the convergence situation of Turkey with Enlargement countries (4th) And enlargement countries (5th, 6th and 7th) and all EU countries dahili the defined time periods in the scope of convergence of Turkey to EU countries in terms of gross domestic products. in this frame, the convergence has been studied via sigma, beta and unit root tests.
