The Age of revolutions in the Europe and its effects over the Ottoman Empire

No doubt that the historical events such as the Industrial Revolution and French Revolution took place in the Europe encompass a greatly important position in the history of world and humanity. They particularly become the issue of numerous comment and analysis thanks to the ideational and institutional structures that were created by their fundamental effects. The response of Chinese Prime Zhou Enlai to Henry Kissinger?s question about French Revolution is, however, highly meaningful in the early of 70?s: too early to say. Ignoring the serenity of history, we, unfortunately, cannot prevent the mistakes while we are looking for practical and pragmatic solutions for the problems of today. Ottoman Empire was also strongly affected from the said developments in the dimensions of historical inevitabilities. The notions such as nationalism, industrialization, free trade, parliament, liberty slowly entered the Empire and domestic social structure gradually loosened. The solutions that found by the Ottoman Statesmen for the problems increasing day by day could not be fundamental and lasting. The thresholds denominated as Imperial Edict of Gulhane and Royal Edict of Reform aimed to establish a balance between foreign motives and domestic expectations within this framework. Nevertheless, the balance that was desired predominantly became in favour of foreign dynamics and nationalist uprisings could not be averted. In addition to these developments, the distortions in economic and political daily life harmed to the confidence of ordinary peoples toward the State. This process also became the starting point for the skews that will last throughout long years. In this study, the said Euro-centric developments and outcomes as well as their effects over the Ottoman Empire will be examined within the framework of ?the Eastern Question? supported by these effects and the policies of Ottoman Empire that were followed in order to protect its own interests will be analyzed.
