Helminth fauna in chickens that is kept in rural areas in Aydın

Abstract (EN)

In this study, chickens that is kept in soil based hencoops in rural areas have been examined in order to determine the helminth fauna in Aydin Center District, Governor Districts of Incirliova, Köşk and Karacasu. For this purpose, a total of 50 chicken necropsies were performed and 460 fecal samples have been examined with native, flotation and sedimentation methods.Helminth infections have been observed in 48 (%96) of 50 chicken necropsies and in 141 (%30,65) of 460 fecal samples. The most abundant helminth species was found to be H. gallinarum (%80). Other helminth species were C. retusa (%18), R. tetragona (%4), A. cunatea (%2) and A. galli (%2). According to necropsy results, 5 helminth species were observed. 3 helminth species have been observed in one sample, 2 helminth species have been observed in 7 samples and only one helminth species have been observed in 32 samples.According to fecal examination, helminth infections have been observed in 141 (%30,65) of 460 fecal samples. Only three types of nematod eggs have been found in this study. H. gallinarum (%23,91), Capillaria sp.(%11,30) and A. galli (%0,21) have been detected in this study.Helminths were only collected from small and large intestines of chickens. No helminth infections have been observed in other tissues and organs in observed chickens.No trematoda and acanthocephala worms have been observed in this study.
