Abstract (EN)
In this study, the data of 144 women who died because of a violent death between 2001-2006 were investigated. Violent deaths constitute 11.2 % of all medicolegal deaths. The 72.3 % of women deaths were related to violent death and 27.7 % were due to natural death (Older than 19 years old). Highest range of medicolegal investigations were made in 2006 (28.5 %). The 53.4 % of deaths occured in June and September. The cases were mostly encountered on Thursdays (18.8 %) and least number of cases happened on Fridays ( 7.6 %). 36.8 % of cases were maried and 29.9 % was between 19-29 years old. 42.4 % were related to accidents, 25.0 % were suicide, 25.0 % were homicide. 7.6 % of the cases the manner of death could not be attributed to any reasons. The reason was traffic accidents in 27.1 %, asphyxia were the second most common reason (26.4 %), and firearm wounds were the third common reason of deaths (19.4 %). Cases died in a traffic accident were mostly passengers. The cause of death in 50 % of suicide cases were asphyxia. Hanging was the most common method in all of the asphyxial cases with suicides as the manner of death. Suffocation/strangulation was the most common cause of death in asphyxial homicidal deaths. CO (carbonmonoxide) poisoning and drawning was the most common cause of death in asphyxial accidental deaths. In suicide cases five of them had a diagnosed psychiatric disorder (13.9 %), in three cases there was a strongly susspicious possiblity of psychiatric disorder but not diagnosed (8.3 %). There was in 75.0 % of firearm wounds in homicides there were multiple shot and in 25.0 % single shot was the case. 75.0 % shot gun cases rifled guns were used, in 25.0 % smooth-bore guns were used. Five of firearm wounds cases in homicide tookplace at home. In 73.6 % of cases autopsy was carried out and in 26.4 % only medicolegal death examination was made. Autopsy was done in all cases with an undetermined reason of death and in homicides. Autopsy was also done in 39.3 % of accidents and 97.2 % of suicides. Toxicologic specimens were taken in 63.2 % of all cases. In 90.9 % undetermined death cases and in 83.3 % homicides and in 83.3 % suicides and 34.4 % of accidents toxicologic evaluation was made. Even if the violence thus not and up with death it can cause drug addiction, sedative dependence, suicide attemped and psychiatric diseases. In conclusion furture evaluations about this subject and related issues will decrease the number of violence related women deaths.
