Abstract (EN)

Underground structures are closed and difficult to work in. There are difficulties in using surface mapping methods and conventional surveying instruments for mapping underground structures. Therefore, techniques specific to subsurface mapping have been developed and some modifications have been made to conventional surveying instruments. Recently, laser scanning devices, which have developed with technology and have found a wide range of applications, have started to be used in the mapping of closed environment and underground structures. Although laser scanning devices have been used in many underground structures for different purposes, it has been observed that they have not been used much in underground city mapping studies. Within the scope of this thesis, Aydıntepe Underground City, where a comprehensive mapping and restoration study has not been carried out before, was selected as the application area. Aydıntepe Underground City was 3D scanned with a mobile laser scanning device and a 3D model of the underground city was created. The accuracy of the 3D model was tested with control measurements and the accuracy was determined as 16.9 mm. A 2D map was produced from the 3D model of the underground city and compared with the existing maps. As a result of the comparison, the property structure and construction status above the underground city were determined. In addition, the contributions of the 3D model to engineering and restoration projects were examined.
