Özet (EN)

Melasma, a skin problem characterized by brown spots especially on the face, is defined as a hyperpigmentation disorder and is a common skin problem that disturbs people especially in terms of aesthetics. Azelaic acid, which is effective in reducing pigmentation due to its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and tyrosinase inhibitor properties in its treatment, is among the most effective substances used. The limited solubility of azelaic acid and the difficulties in its penetration through the skin constitute an obstacle to providing effectivetreatment. In this thesis, gel carrier systems were formulated using Carbopol ® 940, Poloxamer ® 407 and Pluronic ® F127 polymers in order to increase the topical applicability and therapeutic efficacy of azelaic acid. By evaluating the physicochemical properties of the prepared formulations, it was concluded that they have high potential for use in the treatment of melasma and are suitable for in vivo studies, which is the next step of the study. Key words: Azelaic acid, Hyperpigmentation, Melasma, Gel carrier systems
