Abstract (EN)

With the disintegration of the USSR, the Republic of Azerbaijan, which is one of the countries that gained its independence, has been the geopolitical area of Russia for centuries. Azerbaijan has increased its economic and geopolitical importance in the eyes of Russia because of its large oil and natural gas reserves and strategical position between Europe and Central Asia. With the disintegration of the Soviets(the fall of sovet unions) the Nagorno-Karabakh problem, which became a problem and war between Azerbaijan and Armenia, affected all the countries in the region and in this direction, Azerbaijan carried out foreign policy based on this problem in the relations between Azerbaijan and Russia. İn the periods of Heydar Aliyev and Ilham Aliyev the polemics between Azerbaijan and Russia ended with the right foreign policy, and in bilateral relations, the relations were raised to a higher level, especially in economic terms. As a result, Azerbaijan is one of the countries where Russia signed the most agreements. The free trade regime between Azerbaijan and Russia, the customs union, the agreements signed on economic integration, were the turning point of Azerbaijan and Russia economic relations. In this study, economic and political relations between Azerbaijan and Russia and the problems arising from these relations will be analyzed based on the periods of Heydar Aliyev and Ilham Aliyev.
