Abstract (EN)

The biggest supporter of Azerbaijan, which gained its independence in 1991, has been Turkey. Turkey is the first state to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan. Due to the invading policy of Armenia, Azerbaijan has lost Nagorno-Karabakh and seven districts since the day it gained its independence. According to many UN Security Council resolutions, a decision was made to withdraw Armenia from the occupied territories, but Armenia continued to occupy it. As a result of the counter-attack launched on September 27, in 2020, Azerbaijan succeeded in liberating its lands from the Armenian occupation. With the declaration signed on November 10, 2020, Armenia, as the party that lost the war, had to accept the conditions of Azerbaijan and agreed to withdraw its military power from the occupied territories. In this war, Turkey became the most important state that supported Azerbaijan politically, militarily and diplomatically. Before the war, the relations between the two states reached the level of strategic partnership both politically and militarily. Many joint economic projects have been implemented with the initiative of the two states. Especially the agreements signed between the parties in the military field have been an important factor in the victory of Azerbaijan in the war. For the South Caucasus, the victory of Azerbaijan in the Second Karabakh war is very important for the establishment of lasting peace. At the same time, this situation will create new opportunities for Turkey. It will strengthen Turkey's position in the South Caucasus. Especially opening the corridor between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan will directly connect Turkey to Central Asia via Azerbaijan and the Caspian Sea. Therefore, Turkey will become a more active actor in terms of economy, politics and military. Keywords: Azerbaijan, Caucasus, Nagorno-Karabakh, Turkey
