The contextual index of Azmî-zâde Hâletî's Diwan and functional dictionary

In order to better determine the meaning of any word in a text and to distinguish it from other meanings, the context, which is defined as a whole formed by the elements that surround and interrelate with it, has brought a brand new perspective to Classical Turkish Literature studies. The meanings of words with other words used together are so important in terms of finding out the unknown meanings of the words and putting forth the pleasure of the language and style of the period in which the poet lives and the literary work is written. The contextual studies, based on explaining the text with the text itself, gained acceleration thanks to the TEBDİZ project led by Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı AKSOYAK. In this study, the vocabulary of a 17th century poet Azmî-zâde Hâletî's Diwan, critically and transcribed by Prof. Dr. Bayram Ali KAYA, is analyzed, 1704 poems are scrutinized by giving meaning to them word by word. While giving meaning to words, the noun phrases established on Arabic and Persian words and the compound verbs formed with auxiliary verbs are interpreted as a whole. In addition to the basic meanings of words and phrases, the context meanings they acquire in the text are also given. Special forms of expression such as proverbs, idioms, phrases, prayer words, slang expressions, remarks of wise are indicated in the contextual dictionary. Based on the contextual index and dictionary that form the skeleton of this study, Azmî-zâde Hâletî's Diwan has been examined in form, genre, language and style. In the section of psychological descriptions, the mood and emotional state of the poet while writing the Diwan are tried to be understood.
