The effect of high-intensity interval training model designed for badminton on the aerobic and anaerobic performance among young badminton players

Abstract (EN)

This research aims to analyze the effects of high-intensity interval pacing training models designed for badminton players on the aerobic and anaerobic performance of badminton players. 20 male badminton players voluntarily participated in the research. Among the individuals who participated in the research, the median age was determined as 20.5 ± 2.58 years, average height as 174.75 ± 4.94 cm, and average body weight as 68.01 ± 10.18 kg. Then, the groups were randomly divided into two groups; 10 for test and 10 for control. Control and test groups continued their badminton training regularly while the test group performed high-intensity interval pacing training for three days a week for 4 weeks in addition to the badminton training. Tests for body weight, body fat percentage, vertical jump, 20-meter shuttle run, and Wingate anaerobic power were performed as pretest and posttest measurements for Control and Test groups. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used in order to determine whether the data obtained at the end of the research followed a normal distribution. Paired Samples t-Test was applied to reveal the pretest-posttest difference of the data. Independent Samples t-Test was used to reveal the intergroup pretest and posttest difference. All statistical analyses were processed through SPSS 22 package program and p<0,05 confidence interval. Analyzing the pretest and posttest differences of the Test group, it was determined that there was a statistically significant increase in the Maks VO2, vertical jump, agility T-Test, Wingate peak power, and Wingate mean power values. Analyzing the pretest and posttest difference of the Control group, no statistically significant difference was determined in the Maks VO2, vertical jump, agility T-Test, Wingate peak power, and Wingate mean power values. Considering the intergroup posttest differences, it was determined that there was a significant difference in the agility T-Test value. No statistically significant difference was observed when the intergroup pretest and posttest differences were examined. Considering the intragroup and intergroup evaluations, it can be expressed that the high-intensity interval pacing training model may be efficient for badminton players in improving aerobic and anaerobic performance, vertical jump, and agility parameters in a short time.
