The effect of hİGH-intensity interval training on the performance of badminton players on and off the field

Abstract (EN)
Aim: This research was carried out to examine the effect of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on performance, both inside and outside the badminton court. Material and Method: 25 male athletes, who are in the badminton national team and have been dealing with badminton for at least 7 years, participated in the study. It consists of active athletes who train at least 5 days a week. Athletes are divided into two groups as the HIIT group, which is held inside and outside the badminton court. A HIIT training program was applied to the athletes for 6 weeks, 2 days in the first week and 3 days in the other 5 weeks, both on and off the field of badminton. Claw strength, leg strength, jump values, power values measured by Running Anaerobic Sprint test (RAST), T Agility, 20 m sprint, illiniois agility and badminton-specific field test values prepared by the researcher were examined before and after 6 weeks of SCI. Results: The performance parameters of the subjects before and after the 6- week SCI were analyzed. Statistically, statistical improvements were determined in the vertical jump, peak and minimum power, T agility and badminton-specific test values of the in-field SCI training group (p<0,05). On the other hand, statistical improvements were determined in the vertical jump, peak and average power, badminton specific test, 20 m odor and illiniois agility test values of the off-field SSI training group (p<0,05). In addition, the difference between the pre-test and post-test averages of the measured test values and the statistics of the differences were examined. The difference between the averages was compared between on-field and off-field training groups. It was determined that the peak power and average power values, 20 m running time and speed values of the off-field training group increased statistically more than the on-field training group (p<0,05 ve p<0,01). It was determined that the t agility test time (s) and badminton test time (s) values of the on-field training group increased statistically more than the off-field training group (p<0,05). Conclusion: As a result; Badminton positively affects the vertical jump and anaerobic power values of both HIIT performed on and off the field. While the positive improvement in sprint running performance is realized at a higher level in off- court training, the badminton-specific BCI made on the field creates more positive effects on badminton-specific agility values. Therefore, it is recommended that the athletes do both their own branch specific HIIT and the general HIIT.
