Abstract (EN)
The present study titled as "Development and Spatial Analysis of Bahçelievler District" has aimed to examine the physical characteristics of the research area, its historical development, prominent economic functions, population structure, and urbanization features in five sections. Examinations were principally conducted on quarterly basis in the study. The first section which scrutinizes the physical properties of the research area elucidates the geological structure, elevation, climatic elements, vegetation cover, and soil properties of the area. The second section investigates the history of the settlement in the field, which started under the influence of the Ottoman-Russian Wars in the 19th century. In this stage, historical newspapers and maps were utilized. Furthermore, the change in the land use was explicated. The third section, which concentrates on exploration of the economic characteristics of the research area, examines the prominent activities in the field. It represents the dominant effect of industry, trade, and transportation activities on the district since 1950 and explains the number of workplaces in the area. The fourth section, which scrutinizes the population structure, elaborates on the population density in the research area, educational structure, literacy, birth and death rates, changes in the total population, median age, gender ratio, migration flows, and the presence of foreign population. The fifth chapter of the study, on the other hand, examines the urbanization process in the research area and urban transformation projects as well as the change in the number of dwellings, the quality of the licensed buildings, and the city plan on quarter basis. The construction plan carried out by Henry Prost was explored in this section as well.
