Abstract (EN)
This research aims to identify the perceptions of aging and elderly services among older individuals receiving care in Yalova province and to analyze the needs and expectations of the elderly by evaluating the current state of elderly care services. The study includes 20 participants (11 males and 9 females) aged 65 and older who are receiving professional care services under the Yalova Directorate of Family and Social Services, selected using a purposive sampling technique. The data collection process was conducted with permission from the Ministry of Family and Social Services and involved in-depth interviews using a semi-structured interview form. The interview form consists of two sections: the first section gathers demographic information to obtain fundamental insights into the perceptions of aging, while the second section includes open-ended questions regarding concepts of aging and the perception of provided elderly services. The collected data were analyzed using the descriptive analysis method with MAXQDA software, and themes were identified. The findings of the research comprehensively reveal the perceptions of aging and elderly services among older individuals receiving care. Analyses indicate that the institutions providing care services are inadequate, that there are different implementations of elderly care services in public and private centers, and that there are disruptions in the services provided. Furthermore, it was found that there is insufficient collaboration with elderly individuals in the formulation of elderly policies. Regarding future expectations, it is necessary to adopt more comprehensive and holistic approaches to ensure a dignified aging experience. Social service practices that promote active aging and participation in social life, thereby contributing to the well-being of the elderly, should be emphasized.
