Problems of Balkanian emigrants (1912-1914)

Immigration is a phenomenon by which people change places is order to spend their whole life or a part of life in another place. However, this phenomenon of changing places has happened with the free will of the people and sometimes unwillingly and by force. Therefore, immigration has been one of the important phenomena which affected societies.Most of the immigrations to Turkey have occured by force. Between the years 1806 and 1812, about 200.000, between years 1856 and 1865 over 2.000.000, between 1877 and 1878 approximately 1.253.500, between 1912-1914 over 100.000 Moslem immigrants leaving their country had to setle in Turkish soil. When Ottoman Empire lost Balkanian Wars and withdrew, native people in those places were insulted and tormented by Bulgarians, Greeks and Serbians. Non-moslem people who had lived in peace and tranavility with Moslems about five hundred years; assuming a hostile manner attached the cities, towns and villages where Turkish people were living. All Christian allies started an extended massacre against moslems living in villages and towns. Moslems, in diffucult sitvation, first migrated Edirne, from here İstanbul and after that other Anatolian cities (Bursa, İzmir, İzmit, Edremit, Bandırma, Balıkesir, Ankara, Konya, Antalya, Adana, Eskişehir?)Immingrants who came to İstanbul and other Anatolian cities and had a number reaching one hundred thousands had to struggle with hunger, poverty and epidemics during the immigration. And the problems of immigrants continued in the places where they came. These were such vital problems as settlement, diseases, harmony with the rative people and education. Ottoman Empire and the non-govermental institutions of the period weren?t indifferent to those problems. Immigrant Placement Comission was established, Hilal-i Ahmer Charity helped many homeless people who came from Rumela.The problems of Balkanian war immigrants and the solutions the Empire found against these problems will give clues to understand the probable forecaming immigrations and to find a solution to them.
