Task performance and contextual performance at the banking sector: A research in Yalova

Each passing day, the expectation against to population growth employee class is increasing, after the industrial revolution. In time, the wars, crises, famines, inventions, technological developments, revolutions etc. change the expectations from employees but there is an expectation that never changes that is the performance of employee and its increasing importance in today bussines life becouse of the increased competition, easly copied technology etc. As a result of ever increasing value of performance, number of in depth investigations conducted is increase about mentioned consept in bussines life. In consequence of these investigations, concept of performance is divided into various type in itself. The most widely accepted types of performance that are ?task performance? and ?contextual performance?. In the study, firstly the concepts performance and performance evaluation are explained and after types of performance, which are task performance and contextual performance are discussed. Task performance refers to basic responsilibilities of a work that must be fulfilled and tasks are differ from business to business. Contextual performance is not about basic task activities however it supports the organizational, social and psychological environments which serves as an important dissolver for the success of the task. These two concepts are analysed in detail and associated. At this point, banking field, which performs the evaluation of performance intensely, is selected as field of the study. It is explained that the relation and interaction between these two concepts by evaluating performance, task performans and contextual performance perceptions of bank employees. A survey is conducted in order to evaluate the perceptions on the types of performance of the private bank employees in Yalova. As a conclusion, it is proved that there is a meaningful relation between task performance and contextual performance.
