ABSTRACTMaster ThesisTHE EFFECT OF BARRIER DISCHARGE ON SORBTION PROPERTIES OFGAS-DIELECTRIC AND LIQUID-DIELECTRIC SYSTEMSFevzi HansuInonu UniversityGraduate School of Natural and Applied SciencesDepartment of Electical and Electronics Engineering86 + xi Pages2005Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Hafız AL SOYThe main factors affecting the technological processes in Gas-Adsorbend andLiquid-Adsorbend systems are electrical fields and electrical discharges in lowpressure. In this thesis, the sorption properties of Corona Discharge and BarrierDischarge on Gas-Dielectric and Liquid-Dielectric Systems were investigated. Themain aim of this study is to increase the efficiency of these systems which purify gasesand liquids with the affect of electrical discharges. The adsorption and thermic desorption properties of Gas-Dielectric (N2- Silicojel,CO2-Silicojel, Air-Silikojel) and Liquid-Dielectric (Filth water-Silicojel) were studiedexperimentally by considering different medium conditions. The produced chargeamount as a function of time in the Gas-Adsorbend and Liquid-Adsorbend Systemsunder different pressures and different applied voltages were also investigated. Therefore, the experiment system that is needed for this study were prepared. In thisstudy, the surface properties of dielectric materials were also modified by using Coronadischarge and Barrier discharge. The experimental results have shown that the pressure and applied voltage arevery effective on the electrical discharges. These effects such as the critic value ofpresure and and the characteristic Voltage-Current relation were found to be importantin determining the efficiency of Adsorption and Desorption processes.KEYWORDS: Electrical Discharge, Corona Discharge, Partial Discharge, BarrierDischarge, Adsorption, Desorption.ii
