Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, Bartın's traditional handicraft "tel kırma" has been discussed in terms of folklore. The study is mainly based on field research and has been conducted in Bartın province. Forty-six people, mostly women, were interviewed from different age groups within the scope of the study. The interviews were mostly held in the houses and shops of the participants living in Bartın Center and in "tel kırma" courses given at the Bartın Public Education Center and Evening Art School. In addition, interviews were held in Amasra, the surrounding villages of Bartın and the Bartın Traditional Handicrafts Association. Different knowledge and perspectives on some known aspects of Bartın's traditional handicraft "tel kırma" could be obtained and, on the other hand, other folklore aspects of this handicraft, which were thought not to be emphasized until now, have been discussed. The study has focused on the changes that Bartın's "tel kırma" tradition has undergone from past to present. Within the scope of the study, what Bartin's "tel kırma" tradition is, its materials, knotting methods, embroidering techniques and usage areas have been discussed; and their changes from the past to the present have been identified. The institutionalization process of Bartın's "tel kırma", book and magazine activities on "tel kırma", projects involving "tel kırma" and association establishment activities, the emergence of "tel kırma" in Bartın, a look at the traditional environments of "tel kırma" from the new Bartın to the old Bartın, the adopted tradition of "tel kırma", "tel kırma" as a therapy, "tel kırma" during the Covid-19 pandemic, changing transmission spaces/models in "tel kırma", "tel kırma" and fashion industry, "tel kırma" as a city image/symbol/brand, "tel kırma" in art/craft distinction, contribution of "tel kırma" to the profession or home economy, some beliefs and practices reflected in "tel kırma", evaluation of "tel kırma" in the context of promotion-marketing-touristic product have all been discussed within the scope of the study. Changes between generations, master trainers and product quality, increasing cost and the need for industrialization, intermediaries' making profit and the need for establishing cooperatives have also been discussed as some of the problems identified in "tel kırma". Finally, the carriers of the intangible cultural heritage in the field of "tel kırma" and those who work on this tradition have been discussed. The change of tradition and its current situation have been determined.
