Abstract (EN)

Anatolian Geopraphy, which embodied countless cultures, contains many civilization because of its location and geopolitical characteristics. As a result, many written and unwritten cultural values were collected by traditions in Anatolian Geography. If these cultural values are examinated, a mosaic structure can be observed. This mosaic structure was shaped by other cultures and it is still being shaped at the present time. By the time, the developing tecnology brings populer culture in to our lifes. Populer culture affects human beings and causes a change in traditional approaches. While this change is creating a common cultural structure on earth, people forget their traditions in their own geography. As it happens in all countries and cultures in the world, people also begin to forget our cultural values and traditions in our country. UNESCO starts to classify all cultural values as tangible and intangible values under the title of cultural heritage to protect the traditional culture from the danger of extinction and they also performed many works for this aim. In the light of all these, our country is conducting projects to protect and embrace to our cultural values. In this work we chose the villages of Bartın, that was structured around Bartın Stream, which's name comes from Greek God Athena and its old name was Parthenios, as the research topic. The sources related with the names of 265 villages of Bartın were studied and interviews with 516 people were conducted related with the topic. Between the interviews, the ones have the highest possibility of truth were chosen as source and pointed out as "K.Ş" next to the referred person. In this work the most commonly accepted aspects were used and recorded. Public Science procedures and methods were used as a guide. This study explains why these villages have these specific names. The results were classified and represented according to 4 main districts of Bartın. The research provides explanations for the villages of 4 main districts under their names.
