The role of Bartin river in the creation of an urban image of Bartin

Bartın is a city found at the edge of the Bartın River. The main reason for the river being chosen as a settlement center is easy facilitation of transportation. Bartın has managed to become one of the leading cities in the region in its historical development. Over time, it took on tasks which were the marketplace characteristics, timber and shipbuilding activities that were common in the province, its contribution to the Ottoman fleet and commercial transportation duties. . Bartın River is the only river suitable for river transportation in our country. The connection of the Bartın River to the Black Sea via the river has made Bartın a port city12 km part of the river between the Black Sea and the center of the river has been used for transportation for a long time. Over time, River transport has halted, so activities on the river have decreased. Eventually, the river has become unusable for passenger and freight transport. The current situation of Bartın River which is the subject of this study, its relationship with the city, the problem of pollution, the loss of ecological balance and the breeding studies are analyzed by comparing with the studies conducted in cities passing by the river. The urban image of Bartın is addressed by the Bartın River. While Bartın River has the advantage of the potential resources of the city referred, the urban image elements are analyzed in the context of Kevin Lynch. The data obtained is evaluated in the past and future scale. Although the problems of the Bartın River show that the image of the city cannot be created easily, an image that is strengthened and developed for the city should be created. The historical frame of Bartın plans to be restructured and to be distinguished from the surrounding provinces. In terms of urban image, the Porsuk River Project of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, which became a brand city in terms of creating river cleaning and recreation areas in our country in order to integrate with the city and the people living in the city, Adana Metropolitan Municipality and Sivas Municipality in terms of river cleaning are examined. Based on three examples, a general evaluation has been made for the Bartın and it has been decided to clean the Bartın River and solve the pollution problem; It has been predicted that it will have a positive effect on the concept of image. With the realization of these cleaning works and the functioning of the river, attention has been drawn to the concept of image that will change in the city.
