Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of the science activities conducted by hand-made materials on the transfer of conceptions. The study utilises the pretest-posttest control group design. The sample was comprises of sixty 5th grade students from a state school in the province of Şanlıurfa. In the study, comprehension tests released by MEB were used as data collection tool. The unit of "Light and Sound" in the science curriculum was taught with the activities including hand-made materials in the invervention group while fabrication materials used in the control group. The activities in the invertention lasted for five weeks. During this process, students were also asked to fill periodically in diaries to reveal their emotions. According to the results, no significant difference was seen between the invertention and the control group in terms of academic achievement.
