Philosophical underpinnings of the concept of freedom of the press

It is natural that many events, developments and problems in the world, which became a global village with technological revolution, create a universal debate. The concept of freedom of the press is one of the most debated issues in the world due to the fact that the media has the power to create an impact on a global scale. In this study, which aims to reveal how the intellectual steps that form the basis of the discussions on the freedom of the press have developed in the historical process, it is dwelled on the nature of the present- day of universal contract which aims to protect fundamental rights and freedoms with the question of whether it is possible to design a freedom on the border of state thought. It is not easy to gather everything that can be said about concepts such as freedom, state and constitution which can be handled in different dimensions under a single study. For this reason, this thesis has been tried to be continued within the scope of classical liberalism by making use of related books, magazines, articles and digital publications. Freedom is a notion that can be the carrier of meanings created under the conditions of each period with its individual and social aspects. As sometimes it is only a mental issue of a human being and sometimes it is a factor in the development of intellectual steps in societies, it is not possible to make any final judgments on it or to say a final word. But this situation does not make meaningless efforts to make researches and interpretations on the intellectual and historical foundations of the concept of freedom; on the contrary, understanding the historical course correctly can make a realistic contribution to the development of the right awareness of freedom.
