Comparison of obesity awareness levels of students studying in different types of high school in batman province

The aim of this study is to examine the obesity awareness levels of students studying in different types of high schools in terms of different variables. The sample group of the study consisted of 1200 students, 601 female and 599 male, studying in different types of high schools in Batman province. In our study, the Obesity Awareness Scale (OFÖ), which was developed by Allen and adapted to Turkish and Turkish culture by Kafkas and Özen and whose validity and reliability studies were conducted, was applied. SPSS program was used to statistically analyze the data obtained at the end of the study. Data were presented as arithmetic mean and standard deviation. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used for normality test; Levene test was used for homogeneity test. Skewness and kurtosis values were checked for data sets that did not show normal distribution and data sets with a value of ±2 were accepted to show normal distribution. Independent sample t-test was used for pairwise comparisons between groups and one-way analysis of variance was used for more than two comparisons. Tukey correction test was used to determine which variable caused the difference. Pearson correlation was applied to determine the correlation between the sub-dimensions of the scale. Statistical results were evaluated at p<0.05 significance levels. Statistically significant differences were found in age, type of school, number of days of sports per week, and education level of mother and father. As a result, obesity awareness levels in different high school types differ according to age, licensed athletes, education status of parents, and high school types.
