Examination of earthquake-soil interaction in Batman province

Abstract (EN)

Turkey is on the seismic zone due to its location. This situation requires more comprehensive soil investigations in areas where construction is intense and earthquake risk is high. In geotechnical engineering, detailed investigation of soil problems caused by dynamic loads such as earthquakes is important. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the acceleration-period, velocity-period, displacement-period relations on the soil surface using earthquake records and shear wave velocities (Vs). In the study, shear wave velocities were used for three neighborhoods (Gültepe, Tilmerç and Fatih) in the city center of Batman. The soil dominant period values were found from shear wave velocities by using the EERA (Equivalent-Linear Earthquake Response Analyses) program, which analyzes based on one-dimensional equivalent linear analysis. In the EERA (Equivalent-Linear Earthquake Response Analyses) program, using this shear wave velocity data, Elazığ-Sivrice earthquake with a magnitude of Mw: 6.8 that happened on 24.01.2020 was used as a model earthquake. The soil-earthquake effect was investigated by interacting the Elazığ-Sivrice earthquake acceleration data received from five different stations with shear wave velocities (Vs) in the EERA (Equivalent-Linear Earthquake Response Analyses) program. The stations whose records were used are Sivrice in Elazığ, Pütürge in Malatya, Gerger in Adıyaman, Kovancılar in Elazığ, Pazarcık in Kahramanmaraş. As a result of the study, soil-earthquake effect was investigated by interacting earthquake data and shear wave velocities.
