Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to thoroughly investigate the chemical compositions of Hellenistic coins that have been transferred to the Batman Museum, thereby gaining new insights into this historical period. The Hellenistic era, which began with Alexander the Great's eastern campaign and continued with the fragmentation of the kingdoms after his death, represents a significant period in terms of cultural and economic development. In this study, 32 coins from this era were analyzed using a portable X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometer (P-EDXRF). This technique allows for the rapid and non-destructive chemical analysis of the coins. The chemical composition of each coin was determined in an average of 35 seconds. The analysis revealed that the coins contain approximately 65.54% copper, 16.52% lead, and 14.99% tin. These results provide valuable information about the production techniques and materials used during the Hellenistic period. Furthermore, the data offer important insights into the economic and commercial structures of the time. The findings of this study contribute to the understanding of Hellenistic numismatic artifacts, adding a significant resource to the existing literature. In this context, when evaluated from both archaeological and historical perspectives, the results present new perspectives on the production and use of coins during this period.
