The determination of antimicrobial activites of some copper (II) terephthalate complexes

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the antimicrobial activities of the newly synthesized [Cu(tp)(dmpd)2] (A1), Cu(tp)(amp)2]·3H2O (A2), [Cu(tp)(pen)2] (A3), [Cu(tp)(dmen)2] (A4), [Cu(tp)(deen)2]·4H2O (A5) and [Cu(tp)(mpen)2]·2H2O (A6) were determined by using the agar disc diffusion and tube-dilution methods. The microorganisms used in antimicrobial activity test were as : Gram positive bacteria ; Staphylococcus aureus(ATCC 25923), Enterococcus faecalis (ATCC 29112) and MRSA(clinic isolate), Gram negative bacteria; Escherichia coli (NRRL 3704), Salmonella spp. (clinic isolate), Enterobacter aerogenes (ATCC 13048) and Moraxella catarrhalis (clinic isolate) and Yeast and moulds ; Saccharomyces boulardii (wild), Saccharomyces cerevisiae (wild), Aspergillus niger (ATCC 10949), Aspergillus fumigatus (NRRL 163), Candida albicans (clinic isolate). Cu(tp)(amp)2]·3H2O antimicrobial activity was determined as the best activity among other copper compounds. The most sensitive bacteria against chemicals were as Staphylococcus aureus and Methicillin-resistant S. aureus, as gram popositive bacteria, Moraxella catarrhalis as gram negative bacteria. The most sensitive fungi were determined as being Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Saccharomyces boulardii.
