Özet (EN)
Cosmetic products provide suitable environments for the growth and proliferation of microorganisms both due to their formulation components and structural characteristics. Preservatives included in formulations play an important role in preventing contamination. However, user-induced proliferation can have a significant impact on microbial contamination in cosmetic products. The study aims to investigate the microbial load of both multiple and individual-used cosmetic products and highlight the reasons for contamination after the products are opened. Out of a total of 200 analyzed products, 56 showed out-of-limit growth according to the Guide for Microbiological Control of Cosmetic Products, and 32 of these products contained microorganisms that should not be present. Specifically, examining microbial contamination in used cosmetic products reveals significant differences among various product groups. The absence of out-of-limit growth in products such as liquid lipsticks, which are packaged in closed systems, emphasizes the importance of user-friendly and hygienic storage conditions. However, the high rate of out-of-limit growth observed in the powder group indicates an increased risk of contamination in products exposed to open environments and frequently touched surfaces. This situation suggests the need for manufacturers and consumers to develop more conscious and hygienic usage habits. In this context, steps such as regular cleaning and disinfection procedures, cleaning of used makeup tools, and paying attention to expiration dates are crucial for enhancing the safety of cosmetic products.
