The average size grain of some marbles by determining with ultrasonic methods

In this thesis, twenty marble samples in three groups which are separated according toformation are related to evaluation of grain size with three ultrasonic methods.The ultrasonic wave velocities of the marble samples, the coefficients of ultrasonicattenuation and the ratio of screen heights of successive peaks according to ultrasonicrelative attenuation have been evaluated. Additionally, progressing velocity ofultrasound waves has been measured which has been sent to inside of samples bytransducer for determining of the ultrasound velocity. After that, it comes out as knownreference samples that the coefficients of attenuation have been calculated by usingheights of successive peak on the screen; in addition to these, ultrasound velocity andattenuation values have been measured and searched about relation with grain size byusing 2MHz and 4MHz probed.It has been found that there is a linear relation when they have been evaluated in threedifferent groups which have been notified between average grain size by a polarizemicroscope.
