Determination of taxol content and stand characteristics of some yew (Taxus baccata L.) populations

Abstract (EN)

Yew (Taxus baccata L.), which shows its main distribution in Turkey, Europe and the Caucasus, is a raw material source used in modern medicine today with its natural anticarcinogenic compounds. İn this study, stand characteristics, physiographic characteristics, climatic characteristics, physical and chemical soil characteristics of 17 populations of yew (Taxus baccata L.) naturally grown in Marmara and Western Black Sea Regions were determined. In addition, the leaves sampled from each population were subjected to extraction and high performance thin layer chromatography (LC-MS) to determine the amount of taxol and baccatin III they contained. İn the study, it was investigated whether there is a relationship between the stand characteristics and the taxoid contents of the leaves. As a result of the research, the chemotypes containing the highest taxol were determined in the Bartın-Gölderesi, Yığılca-Kurtkayası, İnebolu-Karagöl and Yenice-Kızılkaya populations. İt will be appropriate to produce these derivatives obtained from natural forests synthetically (raw material), to protect existing gene resources, and to expand seedling production and tissue culture studies.
