Abstract (EN)

KALE, S. Design, Synthesis and Evaluation of some chalcone derivatives as antiproliferative agents, Yeditepe University Institute of Health Science, Thesis on Pharmaceutical Chemistry Master of Science Degree Programme, Istanbul, 2022. Chalcones or 1,3-diaryl-2-propen-1-ones are naturally occuring compounds that belong to the flavonoid family. Chemically, they consist of a three-carbon α,β-unsaturated carbonyl system and two aromatic rings attached to the terminal carbons. In this study, 11 novel benzimidazole chalcone derivatives were synthesized and their structures were elucidated with the help of FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, LC-MS and elemental analysis. The activities of 11 synthesized compounds against MCF7 breast, HUH7 liver, and HCT116 colon cancer cells were investigated. It was observed that the synthesized compounds 3c, 3e and 3g showed activity against HCT116 colon cancer cells. Keywords: benzimidazole, chalcone, anticancer, NCI-Sulforhodamine assay
