Abstract (EN)

Cancer is in the first place among the incidence and causes of death in the world and covers a portion of 22%. According to the estimations in the International Cancer Research data, it is claimed that there is a possibility of being seen in more than 26 million people in 2030. The drug resistance mechanism, which prevents chemotherapeutic treatment approaches, is an important and major problem, thus creating an obstacle to successful treatment. It has been suggested that fatty acids, which are used in diseases such as diet product, cholesterol, cardiovascular diseases, and rich in milk content, may produce positive results in cancer treatment as well. In this thesis study, the effect of capric, caproic, caprylic and palmitoleic fatty acids, which are known to have many properties such as anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, anti-tumor, on cancer cell viability was investigated by applying them separately or in binary combinations on C6, HT-29 and HeLa cell lines. MTT assays, which are widely used to measure cell viability, proliferation or drug cytotoxicity were performed. When the obtained IC50 values and the combinations depending on cell viability were compared statistically, it was analyzed that the binary combinations at different concentrations formed in each cell line showed acceptable activity. When combination and single concentration data were evaluated, the best inhibition data out of the three cell lines were analyzed in HeLa, HT-29 and C6 cell lines, respectively. 75-80% in combinations applied in HeLa cell line; 35-50% in the HT-29 cell line; and 20-50% inhibitions in C6 cell line and the combinations of fatty acids considered in accordance with these data have been reported to have anti-tumor activity. In summary, it is possible to conclude that the viability parameters obtained vary depending on the cell line, appropriate dose and time intervals. Keywords: Capric, Caprylic, Caproic, Palmitoleic Fatty Acids, Antitumor
