Investigation of the catalytic activities of some substituted chlorins in the oxidation of some phenols

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the catalytic activities of 5,10,20-tris(nicotinic acid) chlorine A-manganese (chA1), chlorine B-manganese (chB1), chlorophyll A (chA2), 5,10,20-tris(guanine) chlorine A-manganese (chA3), 5,10,20-tris(4-methyl benzone) chlorine A-magnesium (chA4) and chlorine A-manganese (chA5) has been investigated in the oxidation of some phenols by potassium peroxymonosulfate (2KHSO5.KHSO4.K2SO4, oxone) oxidant. In the experimental works, 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP) or 2,3,6-trimethylphenol (TMP) used as a substrate was mixed with ammonium acetate, oxone, acetonitrile, pure water, and the catalyst.In the studies the activities of the catalysts were investigated in the three different reaction conditions: at room temperature and daylight, at 40°C and daylight, and at 40°C and in the presence of UV radiation. The product compositions of the reaction mixtures were identified using GC-MS and the amount of the products were quantitatively determined using GC chromatograms. 5,10,20-Tris(nicotinic acid) chlorine A-manganese (chA1) was found to be the most effective catalyst in the oxidation of the phenols (TCP and TMP) among the catalysts derived from chlorophyll. With this catalyst, high phenol conversitions were generally achieved in a few minutes. Under similar conditions, high phenol conversitions in the presence of other catalysts were generally obtained in a few days.Keywords:Oxidation, Catalyst, 2,4,6-trichlorophenol, 2,3,6-trimethylphenol, Substituted chlorins
